Wrong Time, Wrong Place, No More

Empty.
The imprint you left.
Just a soul-shaped blackness in this weather-worn heart.
An unexpected aching from platonic roots.
Life lurching to neverwhere,
Incomprehensible without you.
Impossible emotions building to crescendo,
Filling the silence with vacant dreams.

Flickering candles.
Cast hollow shadows in the cold, damp dark.
Lumineers in the background,
Singing fairytale dreams of your heart.
Echoing moments that we shared as allies,
Adventures in light, darkness and lies,
Never knowing how you felt.
Until you were there no more.

In a heartbeat I know,
That in another place, another time,
Had our worlds collided,
And lives would have meshed.
But right now,
In this time,
This place,
You're gone, without another word.

As I look back, crestfallen,
Unexpectedly heartbroken.
The fragility of our glass friendship,
Shattered on the floor.
How could I forsee,
Never knowing how you felt?
Thinking you'd always be close.
Until you were there no more.

Like Ships in the Night

Floating in these silent seas,
We drift so close and yet so far.
Immortal friends,
We guard the shore.
Breathing softly as moments pass,
Our shadows shimmering in the murky deep.
These cool, calm breezes,
Carry secret words across the ripples,
The ebb and flow of words unspoken,
Listing gently as time ticks by.

From the Outside, In

How much these aching eyes,
Lust for sights before them.
Glistening in perfection,
Life's sweet glow captures my gaze.
Distant dreams and sounds,
Full of silent taunts,
As I stand here alone,
A stranger looking out.

The actors play their roles,
Living dreams before me.
Played to perfection,
The ache to join them runs deep.
Flutters of winds drift past,
Bringing with them scents,
Of flowers in bloom,
As I stand here alone,
A stranger looking out.

My invisible cage,
Anchors me to the spot.
Trapped in perfection,
A prisoner in life's idillicy.
Forgotten moments,
Imprint deep inside,
As I stand here alone,
A stranger looking out.
